Goodbye 2012, Hello 2013! Bidding for January

Well, I just finished up my bid for January as I hope you have too. Funny, more so than ever, I tinker with my bid up until the very end. 8:15am here in Colorado Springs and I am finally calling it quits.
The scary sight on December 16th

Last night there was some sort of hiccup in the PBS system. PBS was down for a little while and scared a few people, including myself. A good man named Watson made quit work of the situation by informing the proper authorities. Thankful, the error didn't erase our bids as I had feared could happen.

In COS there are 290 total trips in January. In January we are finally coming down from the riggers of the high-block December flying. Seems like we've been flying to a record finish this 2012. Last year (January 2012) I was on hiatus so I can't tell you much about last January, but I can tell you that in 2011 there were 320 total trips. We're down 30 trips and up 2 flight attendants in Colorado Springs comparatively.

Big news came over this past weekend. The UA/CO pilot TA was ratified. I won't speculate on what all that will mean, but suffice it to say that it will have long reaching effects particularly on SkyWest.

As for bidding this month, I am changing up my strategy a bit. With the holidays behind us, bidding is a little easier. Also, I found that my family will save a lot of money if I am home at least 2 weekdays each week. I'll be flying some weekends. Ironically, there are a lot of good trips over the weekends in January, so I'll be taking full advantage.

I have really started to favor the clear award/partial line in my bid and I have implemented it again this bid. If I can't hold the weekend trips that I want, I want to throw it all out and hold good paying trips.

I am bidding more restrictively than I have in the past couple months, so hopefully that doesn't come back to haunt me. I doubt it will, honestly. Most folks senior to me want weekends off so, I feel confident that my bid will solve by layer three.

Here is my bid!

I hope 2013 finds you well and blessed. From me and my family, have yourself a merry little Christmas.
