Line Award for Nov 2012 |

Reason Report |
Who has two thumbs and has Thanksgiving off? This guy. I was awarded a lot of hours, too! I'm shocked that I got as many hours as I did. Now, most people would not be happy with that many hours. I, on the other hand, typically like to have 100 hours a month or more. It isn't every month that I want to fly 143 hours, but November is what I like to call my sacrifice fly.
In the game of baseball there is a certain play called the 'sacrifice fly'. Now, in my case, November is the month where I make money to buy Christmas presents... or I don't. So, I sacrifice my time in November making sure that I do what I can for my loved ones. Come December, hopefully, my sacrifice fly pays off.
November is important bidding for a number of reasons, one that might be overlooked is the similarity of November to December. December may have one more widely recognized holiday (New Years Eve) but strategically, you're likely to bid the same as you did in November if you managed to get the line you wanted.
For December, I'll tweak my bid quite a bit. Sure, I'll bid conservatively for December (so that I don't catch a CN or PN) but in this month's bid my line solved at layer 3! My third layer was only 22% of the pairings. For December, that will be the rough percentage that I look at critically.
If you're unhappy with your award, now is a good a time as any to do your homework and learn from your mistakes. And for God's sake, don't blame PBS or "company need" for your lack of seniority or poor bidding. Take responsibility and improve your bidding.
